Sport Buddy has you covered

Sport Buddy hats have become a familiar fixture at the U.S. Open Merchandise Pavilion with June's appearance marking its 11th trip to the major.

The company does not have a big space like most of the other vendors - rather a small kiosk near an aisle that displays the women's canvas hats and has that all-important mirror for trying on the lids. Also, Melissa Gotfredson, company founder, CEO and president, is usually on hand to show how the flexible brim can be fashioned into a variety of styles and shapes.

The patented hats are manufactured in the United State with 100 percent cotton canvas. They are available in white, natural and black with a selection of interior print designs and more than 20 interchangeable sash colors that allow the hats to be adjusted for different uses. For majors, like the U.S. Open, the sashes sport the exclusive logo for each event to make it a keepsake souvenir - as well as a very functional fashion accessory.

"This is the only hat you will ever need," said Gotfredson in a press release. "Out on a boat, at the beach or in your red convertible; simply reach back and tighten the sash to keep Sport Buddy nice and snug."

Sport Buddy hats' flexible brim can be shaped into four styles - signature, round, ¾-bucket and full bucket. Additional features of the hat include:

• 11 ounce cotton canvas
• Water repellent
• Reversible cotton print
• Crushable
• Wind resistant (tighten square knot- back of sash)
• Washable (by hand)
• Breathable fabric
• Builds character with age
• Helps prevent over-exposure to sun's rays
• UPF 50+

Recently, Gotfredson launched a new fashion and style website, SunandColor.com, adding a chic affordable collection of brightly colored tunics, summer t-shirts and dresses, totes, scarves, flip flops and eyewear to the Sport Buddy hat collection.

The e-tail website also includes helpful articles, blogs, testimonials, FAQ, size chart, order tracking, wish list and gift certificates. There is even a how-to video titled, "25 Ways to Wear a Scarf in 4.5 Minutes."

Sport Buddy hats retail for $46 and come in sizes XS-XL. Additional sashes can be purchased for $8.
