Let the eyes have it

July 4 has past, but there remains plenty of summer. And that means sun, plenty of sun, and still a good time to talk about protection for those eyes.

Sunglasses are very stylish this season and the performance factors built in specifically for our sport keep getting better. So no excuses - get out there, be smart and look the same.

Scheyden Precision Eyewear

The company was founded by avid surfer, pilot and golfer Jeffrey Herold, so it's no surprise the products feature superb sun protection for all outdoor activities, and are worn by several of the PGA, Champions and LPGA tour players.

The patented Classic Flip-Up style has the strength, lightness and heat-resistant properties of Titanium. This results in stronger frames that weigh virtually nothing. The Dual Rx instantly adapts to changing light conditions while keeping prescription lenses in place at all times.

The ability to flip the lenses up with the tip of a finger gives a golfer quick versatility when going from fairways to greens, and from bright to dark light. Also, there is no longer the need to take glasses on and off.

Lenses are available in high contrast bronze and neutral gray and have 100 percent UVA and UVB protection, surpassing the highest regulatory standards. Additional lens technology includes:

• Hydrophobic coating that repels water and perspiration
• Thermally applied silver dioxide that reduces light refraction
• Hand-ground and polished distortion free lens
• 100 percent de-centered corrected mineral lens

Scheyden offers a lifetime standard manufacturers defect warranty on frames and a limited replacement warranty on lens. The Classic Flip-Up sells for $395 with a choice of gunmetal gray, gold and natural titanium frames. The deluxe case assembly includes an aluminum strong box case, leather flip case, microfiber cleaning cloth and glasses bag.

Kaenon Polarized

The line is all about lightweight comfort glasses with a retro, aviator-inspired Sequence model for both men and women. The high performance wrapped metal style can be seen on pros Morgan Pressel, Brian Gay and Robert Allenby.

All Kaenon products feature the patented SR-91 polarized lens technology that offers:

• Sharp optical clarity
• Glare reduction
• A thin and ultra lightweight profile
• Impact resistance that exceeds U.S. Government high-mass impact standards
• A lifetime guarantee against delamination, cracking or splitting
• Filtering of all harmful UV rays and blue light

Sequence's distinct comfort and secure fit come from a fusion of a lightweight metal alloy frame, dual-directional spring hinges, Air Bag nose pads and anchoring Variflex rubber pillows embedded in the temple tips.

Available in luna gold and black chrome frames with choice of an array of lens tints and Rx prescription options, the Sequence sells for $339. www.kaenon.com

The comfort factor

By Janice Ferguson

Dressing comfortably does not always translate into looking fashionable and attractive. In fact, comfy clothing, no matter how good it might feel, can appear downright dumpy.

Fortunately, golf apparel brands are offering more lifestyle pieces - that is, attire to be worn to and from, and on and off the golf course. Call the pieces loungewear, warm-up suits or active sets, but the popularity of yoga has inspired tops and bottoms that are meant to be worn together and look great doing so.

Here are a few relaxing outfits for women:

Bobby Jones: The look and the feel of 100 percent Pima cotton is so soft in the royal blue sporty spa outfit. The full-zip top has a ribbed collar with white underarm panel and complimenting multi-stripe pattern on the collar. A dual direction zipper allows for easy movement, and white trimmed flat pockets add detail.

The anklet length pants have a contrasting waistband with draw cord closure, a back mesh-lined pocket and full-length white side panels. The outfit is perfect for resort and spa, as well as everyday wear.

Both are available in sizes XS - XL. The top retails for $145; the bottom for $115.

Greg Norman Collection: Comfortable and stylish enough to travel in, the yoga suit is extremely lightweight, and made from 92 percent nylon and 8 percent spandex Play Dry fabric. The black top is quarter zip with a contrast color zipper lining, inner collar, around the shoulders and down the side panels. The stand up collar with two-button detail tab closure will bring out the Yogi in everyone.

The black leisure pants feature a drawstring waist and two convenient slant side pockets with a not-too-loose flattering fit. Both pieces are available in sizes S - XL, have heat-sealed labels for additional comfort and retail for $69. www.gregnormancollection.com

Tehama: The Golfer Girl collection has been a favorite with golfing ladies for several seasons, and the loungewear does not disappoint with designs that are perfect for a day of golf or lunch with friends. The in-studio originals are adorned with bling to give them a little sparkle factor that is so popular in today's fashion.

The hoodie top is full zip, made from a cotton/modal/spandex blend and available in black and white. It retails for $80. The black bottoms, made in the same fabric blend, are $70. Both are available in sizes S - XL. www.tehamainc.com

Tail Activewear: From the Rippling Water tennis collection, the Juniper zip front hoodie jacket has an inventive back drawstring and is made from 94 percent polyester and 6 percent spandex. The cozy fitting top is stretchy and comfortable, yet feminine and fashionable.

The classic fit Rally pant is made from 92 percent polyester and 8 percent spandex and features zip pockets and an elastic waist, making it relaxed and flattering. The top comes in white and navy blue and retails for $90. The pant comes in black and navy blue and retail for $65. Both are available in sizes XS - XXL. www.tailactivewear.com
