This year marks the 60th anniversary of Adidas' three stripes iconic symbol of sports and fashion. In 1949, shoemaker, Adolf "Adi" Dassler trademarked the three stripes as he began creating a better shoe for athletes.

Visit the link below to view the 60-year celebration and history-making events chronicled over six decades that pay tribute to Dassler's original idea. The timeline includes Adidas' innovative soccer boot in 1954, Rod Laver's four Grand Slam single tennis titles in 1964, Pistol Pete Maravich's all-time leading NCAA Division 1 basketball scoring record in the 1970s, the first sneaker ever to break the $100 barrier in 1983 and soccer great David Beckham's introduction in the 1990s.

No official word of any confirmed or arranged 60-year three stripes anniversary festivities from Adidas yet, but stay tuned.

Abacus, the Swedish golf and leisure clothing brand widely known for superior rainwear, will make its first introduction into the U.S. market when they outfit the European Solheim Cup team in Chicago this August. With golf at the heart of the Abacus inspiration, the collections combine functionality, design, and quality in a way that has given the company a very strong international presence in just a few years.

The contract for continued collaboration between Abacus and the European Solheim Cup team was agreed on in the summer of 2008. Abacus will outfit the European players, their caddies, members of the board, the player's guests, and the team's dignitaries during the week of competition.

"Obviously the most important thing is that the clothes work, that they are comfortable and well-fitting," said European team captain, Alison Nicholas. But one shouldn't underestimate the importance of the garments being good looking. If you look good, you feel good!"

We shall see come August. For more information, visit www.abacus-golf.com.
