Adidas and Stella McCartney have collaborated again to produce a new line of women’s golf apparel for the spring/summer 2008 season.
The collection has introduced golf as a new sports category with apparel, shoes and accessory pieces.
“I think it is about time that women who play golf can now echo what they wear in everyday life on the green,” McCartney said in a release. “It’s exciting for me to bring a bit of an edge to golf.”
The designer announced her partnership with Adidas in 2004, and launched the first season of Adidas by Stella McCartney in spring/summer 2005. Since then, two collections have been completed each year, spring/summer and fall/winter. The addition of golf comes in the seventh season of the collection.
A new sport category is introduced every season, a spokesperson said, including rock climbing, trail running, tennis, winter sports, yoga and dance. Golf was a natural extension.
The collection was “inspired by men’s silhouettes and traditional tailoring, combined with feminine details and grace,” according to information provided by the Adidas Sport Performance division; playful and elegant silhouettes complement sports tailoring.
Highlights of the collection include the Golf Midlayer, a jacket designed to be worn as a layering piece over tee shirts and tanks. The Midlayer, constructed of cotton and Elastane fabric, has adjustable sleeves to let the wearer choose the most comfortable length.
Pieces in the golf collection were designed for peak performance with an après sport look. The Golf Smock Tank, for example, has a close-fitting upper bodice to allow for a freer swing, with loose gathers below the waist to flatter the golfer’s shape and allow airflow.
The Golf Relax Polo combines the element of a traditional polo with a casual fit, with a loose rib detail at the collar and adjustable gathers at the waist.
The Garbato, the collection’s highly functional shoe, offers waterproof technology with details such as embroidery eyelets and a removable kiltie tongue.
Pants, hats and accessories, including an accessory bag, gloves and golf towel, are also included in this collection.
Many of the golf pieces feature ClimaLite fabric, which pulls sweat away from the skin to the outer fabric face for quick evaporation to keep the golfer cool.
The collection became available this month in approximately 600 stores worldwide, split between the United States, Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America. They can be found in high-end department stores, Adidas Sport Performance stores, selected sports retailers and Stella McCartney stores.
Prices range from $90 for the Golf Smock Tee to $250 for the Golf Performance Jacket.
