APPARELChiliwear on hot streak

The performance camp's arm holes are a bit more tailored so that the sleeves do not become bunched during the swing. And, yet, the shirts are roomy enough where you can just slip them over your head like a polo shirt. Pulitzer stresses that the Chiliwear shirts, because of their same-length tails and lack of a side-seam opening, are as ideal tucked in pants as they are out. But to make the shirts even more golfer-friendly, Chiliwear uses a moisture wicking fabric and embroiders all of the labels into the shirts so that there is no scratching on the back of the neck. Furyk had been without an apparel deal for nearly six years until he came across the brand and began wearing the shirts early in 2006. Pulitzer would like to think his shirts had a little something to do with Furyk's 2006 campaign -- 13 top-10 finishes and winning the Vardon Trophy for lowest qualifying adjusted scoring average -- but will defer to Furyk's own talent. Pulitzer said the Chiliwear name and logo are featured more prominently on Furyk's right sleeve these days, and that has helped business. "It's really starting to take off," said Pulitzer, whose company also manufactures the hot Tabasco shirt line worn on the PGA Tour by Kirk Triplett, Woody Austin and Carlos Franco. "These shirts are new and different, and not unlike what soft spikes and double-strapped golf bags did for golf." New for 2007 is an expanded line that offers smaller prints and designs that are more subtle and sophisticated, a look that Pulitzer said appeals more to the green grass shops. "There was some trepidation at first, I believe, to stock the shirt," he said. "But now I think they're starting to see that this brand performs well and is also good for customized embroidery." Brand recognition does not suffer, either, when the world's second-best player wears the shirts. "That's always a plus," Pulitzer said. POLLDeadline approaches
