Under Where?

Ho, ho, ho ...
The holidays are fast upon us and there are plenty of items still unchecked on our lists - toys to buy, presents to wrap, parties to attend and maybe get in a few more rounds of golf. So the staff of The Apparel Wire is going to break until Jan. 2, when the next edition will be published. In the mean time, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

Under there -- under everything else you wear. Suppose that is why they're called underwear.

We're taking you all the way down under to the very first items of apparel you fish out of the dresser drawer in the morning and put on under your golf attire. So much to-do these days about feeling good makes you play good, we figured it was time to address the issue of first layer comfort.

They can creep, bunch, fold, spindle, mutilate and cause major discomfort. And, worst of all they can cause that dreadful VPL -- visible panty lines. We don't need anymore distractions on the course than we already have -- find a target, keep your head down, move back in your stance, is it a 9-iron or a pitching wedge, and, uh-oh, is my underwear showing?

This problem is not a ladies-only challenge. Men, you are occasionally guilty of visible creepy crawlers as well, so we have a comfort solution for you too.

Please don't take the name of this first product literally women, but Commando invisible underwear is seriously as close to wearing nothing as you can get. Made from a patented fabric, they are precision-cut, one-piece construction, and left unfinished. Yet the edges don't roll up or fray.

Commandos lay smooth and flat on your body. Its "naked" construction, without elastic or trim, eliminates panty lines and hip gouging forever. You'll barely feel them, and they'll never see them.

Worried about the fact there isn't any cotton involved? Don't be. The fabric used to make Commandos incorporates the positive aspects of cotton, but dries several times faster, making this synthetic alternative superior to the norm.

Perfect for golf, workouts and everyday wear, Commandos come in two styles of thongs and a girl-short with two size ranges to choose from. Colors include white, light nude, dark nude, black, blue, pink, red, navy, espresso, and camouflage. Suggested retail is $20-$26. Tanks and camis are also available.

OK, guys, now that you've made it through a lesson in ladies intimate apparel, it's your turn.

Adidas Golf has three under-garments for men -- the ClimaLite Compression short sleeve crew top, long sleeve mock shirt and shorts of the boxer and brief variety.

The lightweight, second skin tops can be worn alone or used as a base layer under a polo to increase body warmth. The compression technology provides support that results in improved muscle endurance.

The fabric used to make Adidas' compression line is 88 percent moisture wicking polyester and 12 percent Lycra ClimaLite jersey with hydrophilic finish and antibacterial treatment. Both tops have open hem sleeves and are offered in black, white and collegiate navy for the upcoming season.

The shorts have an elastic waistband, constructed leg panels -- the part that helps prevent all the uncomfortable items mentioned above -- and are available in black and white.

The compression shirts are cut longer to provide the most support possible in the core mid section. Additionally, the shirts have target seam positioning that has been designed to increase firmness to the key target muscle group areas. Suggested retail price for all under garments is $35-$45.
