Odds & Ends

Much about golf apparel focuses on the big items -- pants, shirts, skirts, shorts, blouses -- that the little items are sometimes, well, overshadowed.

But without, say, sunglasses, good-fitting shoes, maybe socks, imagine how uncomfortable a round of golf could be. So here are a few items that can make a difference, even if they still may go unnoticed.

  • Eyewear
Designed specifically for golfers and featuring Dual-Zone technology in 100-percent, distortion-free lenses, PeakVision Sports’ high-performance eyewear (www.peakvisionsports.com) represents the first major innovation in golfer-sunglass technology in more than 40 years. The neutral-density gray tinting in the upper zone reduces glare and allows for better distance perception. Meanwhile, the amber-tuned lower zone highlights the contours of the green for better reads of putts than with the naked eye.

  • Shoes
Manufactured by the Danish-based ECCO (www.eccousa.com), these shoes are becoming worn by a growing number of professionals, including Fred Couples, Aaron Baddeley, Colin Montgomerie and Thomas Bjorn. ECCO offers a number of classic and contemporary styles with a wide range of retail prices ($140 to $400).

  • Socks
Try JoxSox (www.joxsox.com), a line of performance socks that feature a no-slip top, padded bottoms and a mesh fabric on top of the foot that allows air to circulate better. Crew and quarter styles are available, as are ped versions that will help that tan when wearing shorts. They come in a number of colors.
